Dwein Baltazar is a stylist turned writer/director. She attained her BA in Communication Arts from Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Manila. She began her career styling for the independent film Huling Pasada (2008) by Alvin Yapan and Paul Sta. Ana. In April 2012, Baltazar was awarded a film grant for Cinema One Originals to direct her first feature film, Mamay Umeng. It then made its run in major international film festivals including one of the world’s oldest, The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czech Republic. The film also took home the Best Picture prize at the 14th Jeonju International Film Festival held in South Korea. Mamay Umeng was also exhibited at The Mumbai Film Festival (2013) in India and most recently at The Black Movie Festival (2015) in Geneva, Switzerland. Currently Baltazar is a full time mother to a 3 year old fire cracker, while writing for teleseryes and mainstream films.
